Your voice

Take time to reflect on what you accomplished today. You participated in a video-conference, made a podcast, wrote a script, and you had time to get to know other people and about a new place. Read the following questions and write a comment in this blog about your thoughts today.

What things worked well today?
What would you want to be different, if we did it again?
What things did you do very well?
What things do you want to do better, next time?
Is there anything you want us to know?

Remember not to use your last name, just your first name or a pen name. These comments will be on the Internet.

Thank-you for participating in this enrichment day.

Succcessful Practice Day at Edminson Heights

Today members of the TASS staff and several consultants met with George Hueghen's students at Edminson Heights to have a go at a run through of creating a podcast with a representative group of gifted students. It was a great success and gave the adults a chance to learn about the challenges that might be encountered on April 24.

Some of the things that were discovered were.....
* it will be sest to introduce Audacity before having the students develop their storyboard because then they know how the software works and can create their podcast using the tracks in an appropriate way

* the students can find the sample files provided BUT need some help navigating file structures, depending upon their computer skills and somewhat depending on age.

* there should be a backup memory stick at each location on which to save student work and to have the files for the local available if there are network problems

* if the LAME MP3 encoder is not installed students can save their projects as waves

* if the background is laid and criteria well articulated the students will quickly learn the software

* the software is intuitive

* the students do much better if the teachers facilitate their creations by asking questions that lead them to stretch themselves

* 3 before me philosophy leads to stronger teamwork skills and expansion of the teams to cross boundaries between groups

* in this case the creativity could be limited by imposing strict controls of what the podcast can sound like.
